STAUNTON, Virginia, September 21, 2010 – Federated Auto Parts has launched a new Web site for its Car Care Center members, www.FederatedCarCare.com.

“The launch of FederatedCarCare.com gives our Car Care Center members two Web sites in one,” said Phil Moore, senior vice president of Federated Auto Parts. “The main site provides general information including a Car Care Center locator. However, each member has the chance to have their own individual Web site where they can provide more in-depth information on the services and specialties they offer. These individual sites will serve as great business building tools for our Car Care Center members.”

Besides a detailed Car Care Center locator on the home page, the site also offers seasonal vehicle maintenance suggestions as well as a service interval schedule for when vehicle maintenance should be conducted. In addition, each Federated Car Care Center can be accessed through the www.FederatedCarCare.com site.

“Although this site is a great asset for our Car Care Center members, it also serves as a valuable resource for motorists,” said Moore. “Not only can they find their nearest Federated Car Care Center using the site, but they will also find useful information that will help them preserve the value of their vehicle. We plan to add more features in the future that will make FederatedCarCare.com even more of an indispensable tool for vehicle owners.”

ZoomSafer Garners Broad Industry Support to Prevent Distracted Driving

RESTON, Va., Sep 21, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- ZoomSafer, the leading provider of safe driving software to prevent texting and emailing while driving, announced partnerships with several leading fleet management firms to help corporations reduce risk and liability stemming from employee use of cell phones while driving. ZoomSafer's patented safe driving software integrates easily with existing fleet telematics systems so companies can now simultaneously monitor and manage how employees drive company vehicles and how they use mobile phones when driving.

Several leading telematics providers, including Networkfleet, GPS Insight, Numerex, Orion Security and Walsh Wireless, today announced their support to sell and market FleetSafer software to their government, enterprise and small business customers.

"With 50% of employees admitting to texting and emailing while driving, it's not surprising that distraction is the leading cause of on-the-job crashes, costing employers an average of $100,000 per crash," said Matt Howard, CEO of ZoomSafer. "By working with great companies like these, we are putting FleetSafer solutions within easy reach of corporate customers across the country."

"Our fleet tracking solutions have already saved thousands of customers millions of dollars over the last few years, and the addition of FleetSafer will help us to further reduce crashes and their associated costs," said Robert Donat, Founder and CEO of GPS Insight.

"Our services are centered on reliability, security and trust. Safe driving software is therefore a natural fit for our driver behavior-based applications that focus on improvement in driver safety," said Richard Burtner, SVP of Numerex and GM of its LBS group.

"Improved fleet management can be a competitive edge in today's business environment, and safe driving software like FleetSafer reduces liability and also send a positive corporate social responsibility message to our employees, their families and the community", said Peter Jacobsen, President of Orion Security.

"We're excited to partner with ZoomSafer to ensure that families, mobile professionals, enterprises and small businesses on the Sprint network have access to the leading safe driving software on the market," said Chick Walsh, Chief Strategy Officer of Walsh Wireless. "Preventing distracted driving is important for our clients and for us as well -- we have deployed the software across our organization to keep our employees and the communities in which they live safe."

Hyundai Unveils All-New Sub-Compact ‘Solaris’ in Russia

St. Petersburg, Sep. 21, 2010 – Hyundai Motor Company, South Korea’s largest automaker, today unveiled a new sub-compact four-door sedan Solaris. The first model to start its production in January next year at Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Rus (HMMR), the company’s sixth overseas manufacturing base located in St. Petersburg, Russia, is expected to shake up the country’s biggest C1-segment sedan market with its daring design and features tailored to meet local needs.

THE NAME, SOLARIS
Hyundai held a national car naming contest in the early summer of this year to celebrate the first new car of its first manufacturing plant in Russia and “Solaris” has been selected as the winner among more than 27,000 entries from all over the country. The word Solaris is derived from a Latin word for sun, Sol, and implies Hyundai Motor’s strong will to expand its business in the Russian Federation with its new car.

DESIGN CONCEPT
As intimation was given in the Concept RB that was displayed at 2010 Moscow International Motor Show (MIMS), the Solaris continues Hyundai Motor’s ‘Fluidic Sculpture’ design philosophy that injects sophistication and dynamic angles as well as elegant lines resembling a calligrapher’s “orchid strokes” into the shape of a vehicle. Like any timeless work of art, the fluidic essence that characterizes molding design of Hyundai’s latest models is inspired by nature, realizing the harmonic coexistence of all things created.

Having roots in the Fluidic Sculpture design philosophy, Hyundai designers put their efforts to reflect the design concept key words “Sleek on Dynamic” in both exterior and interior of the new sub-compact sedan. With a coupe-like profile found in the company’s latest models like the all-new Sonata, the Solaris’ outer design is highlighted by dynamic and sophisticated graphic elements like eagle-eye looking two-tone bezel headlamps, unique L-shaped fog lamps and the large hexagonal front grille. Its refined and stately image is completed by continuous character lines that start from right above the front fog lamps and extend out to the rear combination lamps.

Inside the cabin where the character lines flow continuously, a Y-shaped crash pad showing bilateral symmetry gives a sense of stability. Furthermore, high-glossy black and metallic colors used in the center fascia add more futuristic and high-tech looks to the interior of the Solaris.

POWERTRAIN
Solaris will be powered by the modern Gamma engine, 1.6L or 1.4L DOHC in-line four cylinder gasoline engines that feature multiport fuel injection with CVVT (Continuously Variable Valve Timing). By replacing the old Alpha engine of its predecessor with Gamma, the sedan promises more power and torque, as well as improved fuel economy, in keeping with Hyundai's pledge to be the industry's eco-leader. The power and torque of 1.6 Gamma are respectively 123ps and 155 N.m while those of 1.4 Gamma are 107ps and 135 N.m. The powerful and fuel-efficient Gamma engine will be mated to a four-speed automatic transmission or a standard five-speed manual transaxle.

Average Fuel Economy
1.4 Gamma 1.6 Gamma
5 M/T 4 A/T 5 M/T 4 A/T
5.9 L/100km
(16.9 km/L) 6.4 L/100km
(15.6 km/L) 6.0 L/100km
(16.7 km/L) 6.5 L/100km
(15.4 km/L)

SAFETY INNOVATIONS
To meet the most stringent automotive safety and crash requirements, the Solaris is built with hot-stamped ultra high-strength steel. In addition, Hyundai offers Electronic Stability Program (optional) further upgrading safety. The top trim model will also feature standard six airbags.

RUSSIAN CUSTOMIZATION
As a result of Russian automotive market researches carried out by Hyundai engineers and marketers for a couple of years, the Solaris is equipped with many specialized features that suit the local weather, road conditions and driving habits. For long and bitterly cold Russian winter, rear heating duct, 4.0L washer fluid reservoir with a fluid level sensor that warns the driver when a refill is necessary and 60Ah battery for higher cold start performance are offered as standard. The wiper deicer, front seat warmers and heated outside mirrors are also available. Furthermore, in consideration of local road conditions and driving habits, standard long-lifespan (1,500 hr) lamps as Russian drivers tend to drive with lights on even during day time, standard front/rear mud guards that prevent the car from being contaminated by such car-unfriendly elements like dry calcium chloride for snow removal as well as optional Emergency Stop Signal (ESS) which automatically triggers the emergency hazard lights in the event of a panic stop to reduce the risk of rear end crashes are offered.

SALES
Hyundai Motor plans to sell 85,000 units of Solaris annually in Russia starting 2011 including the five-door hatchback model which will join the line-up later that year. Hyundai is confident that the new sub-compact sedan, with trendy and stylish design as well as vastly improved features, will attract and satisfy young Russian aspirants.

Established in 1967, Hyundai Motor Co. has grown into the Hyundai-Kia Automotive Group which was ranked as the world’s fifth-largest automaker since 2007 and includes over two dozen auto-related subsidiaries and affiliates. Employing over 75,000 people worldwide, Hyundai Motor sold approximately 3.1 million vehicles globally in 2009, posting sales of US$41.8 billion (including overseas plants, using the average currency exchange rate of 1,276 won per US dollar). FORD TO PUT THOUSANDS OF CONSUMERS BEHIND WHEEL OF 2011 F-150 ECOBOOST MONTHS BEFORE ON-SALE DATE

DEARBORN, Mich., Sept. 17, 2010 – Ford will put some 20,000 people behind the wheel of the new 2011 Ford F-150 months before the vehicle arrives in dealer showrooms so they can see for themselves how its all-new powertrain lineup – including the much-anticipated 3.5-liter EcoBoost – performs and how F-150 stacks up against the competition.

The Ford EcoBoost engine will be available in 90 percent of the 2011 Ford F-150 lineup.

The Built Ford Tough Roundup, a comprehensive drive program for consumers, fleet customers, and dealership sales staff, will travel to seven cities throughout the country between now and November. Additionally, Ford will offer drives of its full car and truck lineup to fair-goers at the State Fair of Texas in Dallas next month.

“We know that once people get into the 2011 F-150 and experience the four new engines that they’re really going to be sold on them. Some of our dealers had a chance to drive it and one constant feedback was ‘Wow!’” said Mark Grueber, F-150 Marketing manager. “Customers tell us they’re really impressed with the specs of the new engines – including best-in-class horsepower, torque, trailer tow and fuel economy – but they want to get behind the wheel and compare it with the competition.”

Participants who sign up for the drive experience at www.driveF150.com will be able to test drive the new 2011 F-150 and compare the power to competitive vehicles in an acceleration drive, which is set up like a drag race. They’ll also be able to see for themselves how the EcoBoost engine performs towing a trailer.

From this site, consumers can “share” the link on Facebook and write about it on their wall. Additionally, the public registration link can be accessed directly through Facebook at: www.facebook.com/fordtrucks.

“It’s a great opportunity for people to experience how the new F-150 compares to the competition in back-to-back drives and do things they would not be able to do easily in a dealership test drive,” said Grueber.

In addition to the drive activities, there will be plenty of information on display with product experts on hand to answer questions, as well as activities the whole family can enjoy including a remote-control F-150 SVT Raptor race course and a bounce house for the kids.

The first drive event will be held in Dallas at Texas Motor Speedway on Sept. 24-25. Other cities include Houston, Atlanta, Orlando, Los Angeles and Aberdeen, Maryland. For a complete listing of dates and locations, please visit www.driveF150.com.

“Over the next two years, Ford plans on bringing five new electrified vehicles to market including the Transit Connect Electric later this year and the Focus battery electric in late 2011,” said Nancy Gioia, Global Director of Electrification, Ford Motor Company. “We know there is an incredible excitement for electric vehicles in the North Texas area and across the country. To support the roll out and acceptance of these vehicles, it is crucial to work with local utilities, like Oncor, to make sure the necessary infrastructure is ready.”

Cooperation between Ford and Oncor also involves working with the state and local governments on the most efficient ways to bring EVs to north Texas. Oncor has already installed more than a million of its 3.4 million smart meters, providing information to help customers charge vehicles when rates are lowest. Oncor will also build about 850 miles of new transmission lines from Competitive Renewable Energy Zones (CREZ) in West Texas to the rest of the state by 2013, enabling electric vehicles to be powered from clean, renewable domestic sources.

“Oncor’s investment in new infrastructure from smart meters to CREZ lines makes Texas the best place in the world for plug-in electric cars,” said Bob Shapard, Chief Executive Officer of Oncor. “Our preparation now will help curb drivers’ emissions, improving air quality, and will reduce the need for power plants to charge these vehicles.”

The collaboration between Ford and Oncor was announced during Ford’s “Charging Into the Future Electric Vehicle Tour.” The 14-city tour, which kicked off at Portland State University in Portland, Ore. last month, promotes Ford’s electric vehicle strategy and educates consumers about what to expect from electrified automobiles and what is needed from the public and private sector to support this new technology.

The Dallas event also ties into the region’s Electric Vehicles North Texas Initiative led by the North Central Texas Council of Governments. The initiative was developed to coordinate collaboration with utility companies, regional governments, school districts, transit authorities and local businesses in an effort to develop a plan that prepares North Texas for the transition to plug-in electric vehicles.

Over the next two years, Ford will introduce the Transit Connect Electric small commercial van, the Ford Focus Electric passenger car, two third generation lithium-ion battery hybrids (2012) and a plug-in hybrid (2012).

These vehicles will achieve breakthrough efficiency; some, like the pure battery electric vehicles Ford Transit Connect Electric and Ford Focus Electric, will use no gasoline at all.

Electrification is an important piece of Ford’s overall product sustainability strategy that includes a range of fuel efficient and alternative fuel technologies including EcoBoost engines, six speed transmissions, power assisted steering, aerodynamic improvements and light weighting materials. Ford’s electrification strategy also leverages the most fuel-efficient powertrains, the most technically competent hybrids and our global vehicle platforms in order to develop affordable choices for consumers.

ALL-NEW FORD FOCUS LAUNCHES EXCLUSIVE AIRBAG TECHNOLOGIES THAT ENHANCE CRASH PROTECTION

DEARBORN, Mich., Sept. 16, 2010 – The all-new 2012 Ford Focus will launch exclusive airbag technologies that enhance protection for front seat occupants in the most common frontal and side crashes.

The suite of new innovations includes Ford’s next-generation driver-front airbag with enhanced chest protection technology. The new airbag uses a reconfigured curve-shaped tether system that pulls in the lower section to create a “pocket” to help lessen the impact of the airbag on the driver’s chest and ribs in frontal crashes.

Ford’s innovative side airbags feature unique shoulder vents that stay open and reduce pressure for smaller occupants who typically benefit from reduced forces. Taller occupants whose shoulders block the vent could benefit from the higher pressures.

Focus also will be Ford’s first car ever to feature front passenger airbags with adaptive venting technology that diverts some of the gas from the airbag inflators through vents outside of the airbags. The restraints control module – the control center of Ford’s advanced safety systems – adjusts the level of venting based on seat position.

The new passenger airbag is designed to help enhance head and neck protection by better matching deployment force with occupant size. This innovative system uses a small pyrotechnic device to force open the vent and can provide less pressure in the airbag when it’s sufficient to help protect the occupant.

“This is our most advanced airbag system ever in a Ford car, and is designed to enhance protection for front occupants in the most common types of crashes,” said Sue Cischke, Ford group vice president, Sustainability, Environment and Safety Engineering. “Each of these airbags uses innovative technologies to help customize airbag protection to the occupant.”

The new airbag technologies debut as standard equipment on the all-new 2012 Ford Focus, which goes on sale early next year in North America. They will be rolled out to other Ford vehicles in the next few years.

Data drive new airbag design
Ford’s new driver-side airbag was designed to enhance chest and rib protection based in part on Ford’s biomechanical research. In particular, Ford found this type of enhanced chest protection technology would be especially helpful in more serious crashes.

“While seat belts and airbags provide proven protection for drivers of all ages, elderly drivers remain at higher risk of injury than younger drivers due to the nature of collision forces,” said Frank Heitplatz, Ford supervisor of occupant safety integration. “Decades of biomechanical research at Ford continue to spur refinement of the safety technologies in our vehicles to further reduce the risks of severe injuries.”

Focus’s strength on safety
In addition to the new airbags, the new Focus’s vehicle structure provides enhanced crash protection as well as improved vehicle dynamics.

High-strength steels comprise 55 percent of the Focus’s body shell, and ultra-high-strength and boron steels make up more than 31 percent of its skeletal structure. These advanced materials help the structure meet crash regulations across world markets, while minimizing the vehicle’s weight to help maximize fuel economy.

“High-strength steels were key to delivering the lighter weight and higher strength we needed for structural efficiency,” said Shawn Morgans, Ford technical leader in body engineering. “We believe the materials used on the new Focus are setting a new benchmark in the small car segment.”

Ford was the first automaker to begin airbag research five decades ago. It fielded an airbag test fleet in 1971, offered a driver-side airbag in 1985 and standardized driver and front passenger airbags in most vehicles by 1993. In recent years, Ford has introduced a variety of crash protection systems – ranging from canopy airbags to knee bolsters – designed to improve occupant protection. Ford has the most Top Safety Picks from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety of any automaker.

EUROPEAN CAR SALES CONTINUE TO FALL DOWN 2.4% IN 2010

Europe’s new car market continues to struggle with a continued fall in sales which has resulted in a market decline of 2.4% year-to-date, says JATO Dynamics, the world’s leading provider of automotive intelligence.

The Volkswagen Polo and Renault Mégane are the only two models amongst the top ten best-selling cars which continue to increase their sales both year-to-date and in the month of August. Volkswagen Golf has suffered a particularly strong reversal of fortune which has seen its sales drop by 29.3% in August, making its sales decline one of the largest among the top sellers. Fiat Punto saw a 30.2% decline.

David Di Girolamo, Head of JATO Consult, says: “This month we have seen a continuation of the sales drop that can in part be apportioned to the removal of scrappage incentives in certain key markets. Generally, consumer confidence seems to be taking another dip, and this contrasts to the general feeling of growing optimism that prevailed earlier in the year. However, the market remains down a full 6% on the same period in 2008.”

Brand Performance
Renault continues to see growth, with year-to-date sales up by 15.7%, thanks to strong sales for both the Clio and the Mégane. This growth has seen it replace Opel/Vauxhall in the top three over the last 12 months. Peugeot has also found a place nearer the top of table. The fact that the two French manufacturers both specialise in small cars, has helped benefit them during harder economic times. Unsurprisingly, Volkswagen still tops the charts, but with Golf sales in decline, its year-to-date figures are down 3.9%. Ford rounds off the top three places, down 8.7%.

The only top ten brand to have posted sales growth for the month of August is Audi, with a small increase of 1.4%, although that has not been quite enough to bring a positive effect on its overall 2010 figures, which sit a marginal 0.4% below 2009. Renault, Peugeot, Citroën and BMW are the only brands in the top 10 to be ‘up’ year-to-date, with increases of 15.7%, 5.7%, 1.6% and 5.8% respectively.

Model Performance
Year-to-date, four of the top ten best-selling models in Europe have managed to cling on to sales growth. The second placed Volkswagen Polo is up 31.3%, the fourth placed Renault Clio is up 24.2%, the seventh placed Opel/Vauxhall Astra is up 11.9% and the Renault Mégane is up 27.1%.

National Trends
Europe’s ‘big 5’ markets of Great Britain, Germany, Spain, France and Italy are all down for the month of August, a volume related factor which is instrumental in dictating the overall sales figures for Europe.

Greece’s very well publicised economic trouble has resulted in a steep August sales decline of 68.7%. Many markets, with comparatively low volumes, have been performing very well both in August and year-to-date. The Nordic countries, Portugal and Eastern European markets are all doing particularly well at present.

Continues Di Girolamo: “It’s hard to draw conclusions at the moment. The sales decline seen in the big five markets is by no means true of all of Western Europe, and Germany’s sales decline does contrast with its comparatively strong overall economy. Compared to 2009 year-to-date, we are only 2.4% down so the next four months will be fascinating to observe, but it’s difficult to foresee any major improvement in the short term.”

The above intelligence is provided by JATO Consult, the company’s bespoke consulting service which offers customers access to its unique research and provides solutions and advice to meet a wide range of automotive business challenges. Old Dominion Wins InformationWeek 500’s Logistics and Transportation Award

THOMASVILLE, N.C. (Sept. 15, 2010) – Old Dominion Freight Line Inc. has been named to the 2010 InformationWeek 500 – a list of the top technology innovators in the United States. The company ranked No. 15 on the magazine’s overall list and topped the logistics and transportation category.

“Information technology is critical to our ability to help the world keep promises, and without the right technology in place, we could not be as efficient of a company as we are,” said Ken Erdner, Old Dominion’s vice president of information system and technology. “We are always working to make the best use of technology, and we are honored to not only make this year’s InformationWeek 500 list, but lead the list of logistics and transportation companies.”

As part of its shift in recent years to increase the use of technology for everyday business, Old Dominion has overhauled its claims management system – moving to a computerized system for handling claims and away from a traditional, paper-based method of filing and tracking.

Currently, more than 99 percent of the company’s claims are either handled during the initial call from a customer or they are processed automatically from that first call. Since the claims system can be linked to the company’s SAP Business Intelligence and Data Warehouse platform, Old Dominion employees can now easily review a customer’s history and remedy any problems that might arise before they happen.

“For 22 years, the InformationWeek 500 has honored the most innovative users of business technology,” said InformationWeek Editor In Chief Rob Preston. “As we start to emerge from the worst recession in decades, the IT focus is now on driving growth – new sources of revenue, new relationships with customers, even new business models. This year’s ranking placed special emphasis on those companies and business technology executives leading that charge.”

In addition to its annual 500 listing, InformationWeek tracks the technology, strategies, investments and administrative practices of America’s best-known companies.

Top winners have included: CME Group, National Semiconductor, Kimberly-Clark, Hilton Hotels and Unum. The InformationWeek 500 rankings are unique among corporate rankings as it spotlights the power of innovation in information technology, rather than simply identifying the biggest IT spenders.

Additional details on the InformationWeek 500 can be found online at www.informationweek.com/iw500/.

PERC is a sponsor of the event, will take part in presentations, and will exhibit the latest products of its autogas research and development, safety, and training programs.
Propane autogas, in use in vehicles since 1913, is a well-established, readily available transportation fuel. It offers lower greenhouse gas emissions than diesel and gasoline and can help users contain costs and meet stringent environmental regulations.
A wide range of propane autogas vehicles are available now, including trucks, vans, shuttles, and school buses. Federal and state organizations offer various rebates and incentives for purchasing propane autogas vehicles or converting vehicles to propane, and a 50-cent-per-gallon alternative fuel tax credit is available for fleet vehicles. In the off-road sector, propane fuels forklifts and commercial mowers, among other products.

“We congratulate the National Clean Diesel Campaign for its effort and progress to help clean our air, and we are pleased to sponsor this event,” said Brian Feehan, vice president of PERC, who will make a presentation during a panel discussion on state and local leaders working with communities. “Propane autogas is already helping Americans reduce their impact on the environment, and it stands ready to do more.”
The mission of the National Clean Diesel Campaign is to work with fleet operators, manufacturers, air quality professionals, environmental organizations, and state and local officials to reduce diesel emissions. According to the EPA, every dollar spent on clean diesel projects produces public health benefits worth up to $13. The EPA recommends emission reduction strategies, including installing retrofit devices and using cleaner fuels such as clean diesel and propane autogas.

These industries typically operate massive engines with immense engine oil capacities.

“We have seen an increasing demand for our technology, which is suitable for major applications. To our knowledge, we are the only bypass oil filtration company providing the advanced type technology needed for engines and hydraulics using these large quantities of oil.

“Equipment, operating for the most part 24 hours per day for up to several weeks, requires frequent oil changes. Given the size of the oil sump, these changes can cost thousands of dollars and be required at least 10 times per year. Our bypass oil filtration systems have helped these companies safely extend oil changes, thereby reducing their maintenance-related operating costs by thousands of dollars per engine per year.”

Kroger continued, “A senior division manager within one of these companies has conveyed to us his satisfaction with our product; not only with the bottom line contribution our puraDYN® systems have provided, but also how our system has contributed greatly to company-wide efforts to reduce their carbon footprint.”

Kroger concluded, “It is rewarding to see the commitment, investment, and focus our organization has made to these industries beginning to pay off and just as important, to see these industry leaders realize the benefits our bypass oil filtration systems bring to their operations and to the environment. Puradyn is committed to continually search out industries looking for new ways to reduce their operating costs and their carbon footprint. Due to the acceptance of our bypass filtration systems and our continued development of new filtration technology, we remain cautiously optimistic for the foreseeable future.”

2011 NAIAS Charity Preview Organizational Re-Alignment

TROY - September 14, 2010 - The 2011 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) Charity Preview announced today that it will provide a new structure to maximize proceeds from the annual black-tie gala, one of the top single-night fundraising events in the nation. Under the new structure, two of the event's traditional beneficiaries - Northeast Guidance Center and Easter Seals Michigan - will now receive support through the Detroit Auto Dealers Association Charitable Foundation Fund, a fund of the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan. The remaining organizations will continue to receive funds from the Charity Preview tickets sales directly.

Those organizations include: Boys & Girls Club of Southeastern Michigan; Boys Hope Girls Hope of Detroit; The Children's Center; Judson Center; The Detroit Institute for Children; Think Detroit PAL; March of Dimes; The Children's Hospital of Michigan Foundation; and the DADA Charitable Foundation Fund, a fund of the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan.

"Like the automotive industry itself, there are charity organizations which are larger or smaller and of varying capacity," said Barron Meade, 2011 NAIAS Chairman. "However, like the smaller and larger companies in our industry, that size doesn't diminish the level of good, quality product. Each of the charities involved with NAIAS Charity Preview do outstanding and necessary work in this community. Allowing two to be supported outside the normal ticket sales structure allows those organizations to still receive funding even though staff size and resources might not be equal."
Bill Perkins, 2011 NAIAS Vice Chairman, noted that last year saw a 25-percent increase in ticket sales over 2009, but because a lower ticket price was established due to the economy, approximately $2 million was raised at the 2010 event. That number is about the same amount raised in 2009. The economics of trying to spread the funds from a steady-but-limited amount is a challenge, he said, but not insurmountable because of the dedication of the charities doing vital local work. "The marketing effort that each organization makes during Charity Preview and throughout the year for funding in tough times is intense," Perkins said. "Smaller organizations may do outstanding work that needs to continue but may be limited by staff, targeted markets or name recognition. Children's futures are at stake when times are hard as those who need help in good times are even more at risk in times of economic challenge like we've seen here. I'm proud the DADA Charitable Foundation Fund can step up to make the load of significant organizations a bit lighter despite external conditions."

Since its inception in 1976, Charity Preview has raised more than $82 million for children's charities in metro Detroit, over $37 million of which was raised in the last seven years alone. Medical treatment, clothing and support services for local kids in need all are made possible through the purchase of Charity Preview tickets.
Tickets for the 2011 NAIAS Charity Preview can be purchased at www.naias.com.

Beneficiaries of the Charity Preview include: Boys & Girls Club of Southeastern Michigan; Boys Hope Girls Hope of Detroit; The Children's Center; Judson Center; The Detroit Institute for Children; Think Detroit PAL; March of Dimes; The Children's Hospital of Michigan Foundation; and the DADA Charitable Foundation Fund, a fund of the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan.

FORD AND AUSTIN ENERGY TEAM UP TO PREPARE AUSTIN AREA FOR ELECTRIC VEHICLES

AUSTIN, TX: Sept. 14, 2010 – Ford Motor Company and Austin Energy today announced a collaboration to help prepare the Austin area for the operation of electric vehicles. Ford and Austin Energy will work together to develop consumer outreach and education programs on electric vehicles as well as share information on charging needs and requirements to ensure the electrical grid can support the necessary demand.

“Ford has a plan to bring five new electrified vehicles to market over the next two years to provide a variety of automobile options to the meet the wide range of driving needs consumers have and demand,” said Chris Pick, Manager of Vehicle Electrification and Infrastructure, Ford Motor Company. “There is clearly an excitement for electric vehicles in the Austin area. To support the roll out and acceptance of these vehicles in Austin and across the country, it is crucial to work with local utilities, like Austin Energy, to make sure the necessary infrastructure and demand on the grid are ready.”

Ford and Austin Energy also plan to work with state and local officials around permitting and regulations to support electric vehicle infrastructure. An easy charging station permitting process is considered one of the keys to electric vehicle acceptance in the Austin area, Texas and across the country.

“Austin Energy is working aggressively to have a pilot program in place by the end of the this year where the utility will provide a home charging station and other benefits to vehicle owners in it’s service territory for a small monthly subscription fee” said Austan Librach, Director, Emerging Transportation Technologies for Austin Energy.

The utility has set up five internal staff efforts to get the City ready for Plug-In electric vehicles. First, there is a group working to establish a grid of public charging stations throughout the area so that people will be able to top off their batteries conveniently. A second effort is geared to updating Austin’s building codes and adjusting the permitting process so that vehicle owners will be able to work with the city to have a charging station placed in their garage with no more than a two-day turn-around. In addition, Austin Energy is working nationally on the vehicle communication software to help the utility/customer schedule the best time for charging and has several other groups considering the development of business models, marketing and outreach. Overall, the utility has created a transportation roadmap and timeline to be ready by 2012 for plug-in electric vehicles when they show up at dealer’s showrooms in the Austin region.

The collaboration between Ford and Austin Energy is part of a nationwide outreach by the automobile manufacturer to educate consumers about what to expect from electrified automobiles and what is needed from the public and private sector to support this new technology.

Over the next two years, Ford will introduce the Transit Connect Electric small commercial van, the Ford Focus Electric passenger car, two third generation lithium-ion battery hybrids (2012) and a plug-in hybrid (2012).
