CHERRY HILL, NJ, JULY 7, 2010 – NationaLease, one of the largest full service leasing companies in North America, recently honored nine NationaLease members for providing exceptional reciprocal road service throughout the past year. The awards presentation was held during the NationaLease’s Spring Maintenance Managers Meeting in Lincolnshire, IL.
The Exceptional Service Award is a peer-nominated award that recognizes members in the NationaLease network who go “above and beyond” to provide an outstanding level of reciprocal road service to their fellow NationaLease members.
This year’s winners and representatives accepting the award from each company included: Ken Singleton, Aim NationaLease, Girard, OH; Pete Souza, Salem NationaLease, Winston-Salem, NC; Kenny Watts, Carco NationaLease, Fort Smith, AR; Ray Houston, Interstate NationaLease, Albany, GA; Bryan Byrd, Williams NationaLease, Normal, IL; Brian Hicks, FirstLease Inc., a NationaLease Member, Norcross, GA; John Martin, Miller NationaLease, Lumberton, NJ; Bill Carroll, Minuteman Trucks Inc., a NationaLease Member, Walpole, MA; and Lonnie Vis, Star Truck Rentals, Inc., a NationaLease Member, Grand Rapids, MI.
The NationaLease Reciprocal Service program gives drivers peace of mind knowing that there are more than 600 NationaLease locations and more than 36,000 approved service vendors all across the United States, Canada, and Mexico should a breakdown occur. Road service for breakdowns or repairs is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, throughout the year.
An example of what earned one NationaLease member the Exceptional Service Award is the assistance that Star Truck Rentals gave to a driver with Tandet NationaLease, Oakville, ON, Canada, who was involved in a major mishap in Michigan that caused considerable damage. The driver – en route from Minnesota to Ontario – was not injured, but he was stranded, with the front right wheels, rim, and axle assembly pushed back onto the rear axle and the rear axle hanger completely torn from the frame. Tandet contacted Star to assist with the complex situation, which ended with a smooth incident recovery and repair process.

LEASETRADER.COM SAYS MORE PEOPLE EXITING LEASES WITH HIGHER MILEAGE REMAINING
MIAMI – (July 7, 2010) – LeaseTrader.com, the nation’s most popular car lease marketplace, reports more miles being left on leases listed in its lease swap marketplace, reflecting a still-high unemployment environment in the U.S.
Especially in heavy urban areas prone to lots of driving, such as Southern California, New York, Florida and throughout the Mid-Atlantic region, new LeaseTrader.com data points toward people driving fewer miles with their auto lease contracts. Mileage is a critical factor in the overall cost to drive a lease and consumers ultimately pay more for a lease when they exceed the mileage allowed as stipulated on their contract.
Most lease contracts allow people to drive an average of 12,000 miles per year (or 1,000 per month). Over the last three years the number of "miles remaining" on LeaseTrader.com vehicle listings has steadily increased. Comparing data over the last three years on BMW 3 Series vehicles with 12,000-miles-per-year contracts shows that listed monthly miles remaining has gone from 856.7 in 2008 up to 972.1 in 2010, an increase of 13.5 percent. A similar comparison for Cadillac CTS reflects an increase of 15 percent (960.3 in 2008 up to 1104.1 in 2010).
"Job loss continues to be our largest reason for a person transferring out of his or her car lease," said Sergio Stiberman, CEO and founder of LeaseTrader.com.
"Naturally, when a person experiences job loss the car is being used less resulting in fewer miles put on the vehicle. Customers taking over these leases are able to experience the added benefit of having more miles to play with when they adopt the remaining portion of the lease."
LeaseTrader.com works with people who’ve lost their job to find a credit-qualified individual to take over the remaining portion of the lease contract and walk away with credit unharmed.

Donlen Announces Plug-in Electric Vehicle Survey Results; Launches New Cost Calculator
Northbrook, IL – Donlen, North America’s fastest growing and most innovative fleet leasing and management company, today announced the results of their latest survey: Plug-In Electric Vehicle Survey. The brief survey was designed to better understand fleet managers’ future use and application of plug-in electrics. Outlined below are a few of the key findings.
“Plug-in electric vehicles are a viable option to help companies reduce carbon and cost. However, our GreenKey™ survey showed that more than 60% of respondents felt they did not have the necessary data to make an informed decision,” said Dan Hannan, Donlen’s Senior Vice President of Strategic Consulting & Environmental Solutions, “That’s why Donlen built a dynamic tool − the Electric Vehicle Cost Calculator − to help our customers understand the opportunity and potential fit within their organization.”
Key findings
Nearly 65 % of respondents responded “not likely” to purchase a plug-in electric vehicle, and the majority of respondents prefer a hybrid vehicle over plug-in hybrids and plug-in electrics. Most fleets currently were not focused on the use of plug-in electric vehicles due to a lack of data available for fleet to make a decision regarding their use.
Other areas of concern were cost, limited driving range per charge, fit for fleet application or load capacity, and battery life, among others. 98% of respondents stated they would only order 0 – 25 plug-in electric vehicles within the next year.
Graph 1: Factors of Concern Regarding Plug-In Electric Vehicles (attached)
Those that did see a plug-in electric vehicle as a potential opportunity responded that they considered the plug-in electric as a way to reduce operating costs and emissions, improve corporate image, and decrease dependence on foreign oil. 35% of respondents saw a plug-in electric vehicle as a good fit for sales application drivers, with 25% of respondents targeting service drivers. More than 25% of respondents would target the Midwest region as the starting point for the use of plug-in electric, while the majority would consider multiple regions. More than 46% of respondents would charge their electric vehicles at an office location with 33% charging their vehicles at home.
Graph 2: Applications of Plug-in Electric Vehicles (attached)
Ultimately, the majority of respondents did not see the plug-in electric to be a short term solution. The lack of data surrounding operating cost, emissions, vehicle specifications, pricing, resale values, and fuel efficiency cloud the potential benefits.
Electric Vehicle Cost Calculator
To assist fleets in making decisions around the use of plug-in electric vehicles, Donlen GreenKey™ built the Electric Vehicle Cost Calculator™ (EVCC). Taking into consideration the costs associated with operating a plug-in electric vehicle (electricity, battery charging time, range, battery efficiency, maintenance, etc) the EVCC can help fleets understand both operating costs and environmental impact of an electric vehicle.

AS STATES MULL BANS, FORD IMPROVES SYNC TO GIVE DRIVERS SAFER ALTERNATIVES TO HAND-HELD TEXTING
DEARBORN, Mich., July 8, 2010 – As the issue of texting while driving grows in prominence nationally, Ford Motor Company is expanding its SYNC technology with new features to give drivers safer alternatives to hand-held texting and keep them more focused on the road.
To help make the in-car connection safer, Ford is improving the SYNC text message readback feature and empowering drivers with a “Do Not Disturb” button so they can decide the level of connectivity and communications they want to manage while in the car. Ford is also taking the proactive step to “lock-out” capabilities that are not relevant to the task of driving while the vehicle is in motion.
“Text messaging has become the default communications method for consumers of all ages,” said John Schneider, chief engineer, Ford multimedia and infotainment engineering. “The power of SYNC voice control combined with Ford’s latest connectivity improvements will reduce the temptation to pick up the phone and take your eyes off the road, providing a safer solution for the use of mobile devices in the car.”
Ford believes drivers should keep their eyes on the road and hands on the wheel and was the first automaker to support a proposed federal ban and state-level legislation banning hand-held texting while driving. In turn, Ford also understands that drivers want to be connected to their mobile worlds while on the road, and texting continues to grow as a preferred communication method. According to a new poll from the Pew Internet and American Life Project, for example, approximately one in four (27%) American adults and driving age teens (26%) admit to texting while driving.
Ford will offer the new features on 2011 model year vehicles equipped with MyFord or MyLincoln Touch, the intuitive driver connect technology that provides drivers personalized access to information and entertainment through voice control, touch screens and familiar five-way controls mounted on the steering wheel.
Bluetooth MAP
Bluetooth is the standard technology that allows electronic devices such as a mobile phone and Ford SYNC to communicate with each other wirelessly. To improve the number of phones that can “communicate” with SYNC so the system can read aloud incoming text messages to drivers, Ford has adopted the latest Bluetooth standard – Message Access Profile (MAP).
“Today, only a small population of phones have the capability to work with the text message readback feature of SYNC,” added Schneider. “With MAP technology, even more drivers will be able to use SYNC to listen to text messages.”
Defined by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG), the MAP standard outlines a set of features and procedures used to exchange email, SMS, and MMS messages between devices. It is tailored to the automotive hands-free environment where an onboard terminal device – in this case, SYNC – takes advantage of the messaging capability of a communications device, such as a BlackBerry smartphone.
The Bluetooth SIG recommendations are considered benchmarks, but they’re not industry requirements. Ford has elected to implement the MAP to signal support for the protocol and encourage additional mobile device manufacturers to add the capability in their products.
“It’s only through acceptance of common standards industry-wide that key technologies can be adapted to the in-vehicle environment,” said Schneider. “We’re hoping to encourage the adoption of MAP so more customers – and more mobile devices – can successfully use the innovative features SYNC has to offer, helping reduce the problem of driver distraction.”
According to a 100-car study conducted by Virginia Tech Transportation Institute, driver inattention that involved looking away from the road for more than a few seconds was a factor in nearly 80 percent of accidents. By providing drivers with the ability to receive audible, hands-free texts, Ford is hoping to help drivers focus on the task of driving.
Ford is already working with Research In Motion (RIM) and supports the company’s intention to begin implementing it in all new BlackBerry smartphones.
“RIM plans to implement MAP on BlackBerry smartphones moving forward and we are pleased to work with Ford in an effort to foster industry-wide adoption and standardization,” said Andrew Bocking, Vice President, Handheld Software Product Management at Research In Motion.
“Do Not Disturb” and locked features
Ford has also proactively designed the MyFord and MyLincoln Touch driver connect system to give drivers more control of how they manage communications while in the car. Screens can be personalized to display information relevant to an individual driver using a simple button click, voice command or touch-screen tap.
The new 2011 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX will be first to offer the “Do Not Disturb” button. This handy feature blocks incoming phone calls or text messages from a Bluetooth-enabled mobile phone paired with SYNC; diverting calls into voicemail and saving text messages on the device for viewing later. But unlike turning the phone off, drivers can still make voice-activated outgoing phone calls, if they so decide, and the SYNC 911 Assist feature can make a call to 911 in case of emergency.
In addition, Ford continues to limit access to a variety of communication features while the vehicle is in motion, thus encouraging drivers to use voice commands if they wish to access the function.
Ford is also taking the proactive step of locking out or limiting content and capabilities of MyFord Touch that are not related to the task of driving when the vehicle is in motion, for instance:
* Screens with information not intended to be used by the driver while driving such as point-of-interest reviews and ratings plus SIRIUS Travel Link sports scores, movie listings, and ski conditions
* Any action that requires typing on a keypad (e.g. typing a navigation destination, editing information)
* Limiting lists of navigation and phone choices that the user can view to fewer entries (e.g. phone contacts, recent phone call entries)
Specific functions that are locked out when the vehicle is in motion:
* Cell Phone
o Pairing a Bluetooth-capable phone
o Manually adding individual contacts into the Phonebook
o Viewing received text messages on screen
* WiFi Connectivity
o Web browsing on the vehicle screen
* Video/Photos/Graphics
o Playing video
o Album cover art and Phonebook photo browsing
o Editing photos
o Editing the screen’s wallpaper or adding a new one
* Navigation
o Destination entry by touchscreen keyboard input (voice entry is permissible)
To help make the in-car connection safer, Ford is improving the SYNC text message readback feature and empowering drivers with a “Do Not Disturb” button so they can decide the level of connectivity and communications they want to manage while in the car.
* Cell Phone
o Pairing a Bluetooth-capable phone
o Manually adding individual contacts into the Phonebook
o Viewing received text messages on screen
* WiFi Connectivity
o Web browsing on the vehicle screen
* Video/Photos/Graphics
o Playing video
o Album cover art and Phonebook photo browsing
o Editing photos
o Editing the screen’s wallpaper or adding a new one
* Navigation
o Destination entry by touchscreen keyboard input (voice entry is permissible)

Kinedyne launches new Catalog for U.S. customers
BRANCHBURG, NJ (July 8, 2010) – Buying cargo securement equipment just got easier.
Kinedyne Corporation has introduced the 2010 edition of its catalog of cargo control products – a high-resolution, full-color release featuring detailed information on new and existing products. The new catalog represents a departure for Kinedyne, in that it presents a consolidation of products currently sold throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico within a single catalog. This new publication is organized in color-coded sections for easy reference and includes several new product categories, such as Tire Chains, Auto Towing & Transport products, a four-season line of Recreational Vehicle Tie-Downs and an expanded Chain and Chain Accessories section.
Although designed primarily for use in North America, the catalog also features – for the first time – French and Spanish content. Thus, the catalog offers product information and company background details in a trilingual format.
“This catalog sets a new standard for Kinedyne as well as our industry peers. It illustrates for all of our direct customers, as well as the end-user, our investment in production capabilities and a commitment to product standardization,” says Larry Harrison, the company’s Vice President of Sales & Marketing for North America. “It also is our first catalog that makes our standard product line accessible to a global audience. The new format and content will make it easier for those customers to find the products they need.”
Some of the products highlighted in the new catalog are:
Cast Mandrel Winches – New for 2010, this upgrade to the company’s winch line was developed in conjunction with several trailer manufacturers and sets a new standard in both quality and durability. The new design is backed by the industry’s first Three-Year Warranty on all cast mandrel winches.
E/A Series Beams – Recent upgrades include a redesigned Beam Head, which features a KwikLatch release mechanism and a Keyhole Slot. When used with the new E-Key fitting, the Keyhole Slot provides a convenient storage solution for beams on the trailer wall when not in use securing cargo.
One Third Barrels - Bulk Chain – An ideal way to reduce inventory by offering smaller quantity options on popular chain sizes, including 1/4-inch, 5/16-inch, and 3/8-inch diameter.
K2 Kaptive Beam System – This newly redesigned system offers a permanently installed double decking system that weighs less, is stronger than previous designs and requires no lubrication. A K2 system will help maximize trailer capacity, increase revenue per trailer load and can pay for itself in less than three months.
GripLink Tire Chains – Designed for both on- and off-road applications, these heavy duty single and dual triple tire chains are designed with high grade, case-hardened steel. They feature an electroplated zinc finish for maximum corrosion resistance. Chains are packaged in easy-to-handle pails with color-coded labels and include detailed instruction sheets with each pail.
SteadymateTM Recreational Vehicle Tie-Downs – Designed with the “power sports enthusiast” in mind, this high quality line of straps and securement point hardware is perfect for use with motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles, snowmobiles and boats.
Retail Packaging Solutions – An expanded offering of products in retail-friendly packaging, including a new Ship & Display case for strap products, utility straps in both Blister Pack and Poly Bag & Header Card formats, as well as several new point-of-sales merchandising solutions.

FORD CANADA SALES UP 16%; BEST MONTH IN 10 YEARS
OAKVILLE, Ontario, July 2, 2010 – Ford Motor Company of Canada, Limited saw sales increase 16 per cent in June, marking the best month on record in 10 years. With 31,707 units sold, Ford of Canada posted its highest monthly sales since May 2000. Ford finishes the first half of 2010 with sales up 23 per cent, making the company the top-selling automaker in Canada. This marks the first time in more than 50 years that Ford has lead the market for two consecutive quarters.
"Any increase for Ford of Canada this month is significant when you consider that we are comparing this June's sales to an unprecedented month this time last year. In June 2009, we were the only major manufacturer to show a sales increase (Ford sales were up 25%) in an industry that was down 14 per cent and where two key competitors were in bankruptcy," said David Mondragon, president and CEO, Ford of Canada. "Customers are rewarding Ford for delivering new products they want and value – products offering leading fuel economy, quality and resale value. That’s why our business is growing."
In fact, the average resale values of Ford vehicles in Canada have increased 28 per cent during the past 18 months, according to the RVI Used Car Price Index, as a result of stronger demand for Ford's new lineup along with improved quality and durability ratings,. This increase translates into an average increase of $2,196 per Ford vehicle - more than double the industry average for the same period. That means more money in customers' pockets when it is time to sell or trade their Ford for a new vehicle.
"The Ford brand now has the highest initial quality among all non-luxury brands, proving that the long-term focus on delivering value to customers is working," said Mondragon.
* Overall vehicle sales increased 16%
* Total car sales up were up 23%
* Total truck sales rose 13%
* Ford Focus sales increased 12%

* Ford Fusion sales rose 41%

COATS’ CUSTOMERS GET MORE OPTIONS WITH X-MODEL TIRE CHANGER LINE
LA VERGNE, Tenn. – Hennessy Industries’ COATS brand will re-launch its flagship line of rim clamp tire changers in order to offer customers increased customization and value, officials announced today.
The X-Model tire changer line represents a realignment of existing COATS lines, combining features and upgrades from the 5000 and 7000 models that will allow customers to tailor tire changers to meet their shops’ needs.
“The X-Model is not a new product launch, but a realignment of COATS tire changer products to better fit our customers’ needs,” said Kevin Keefe, Hennessy Industries’ vice president of marketing. “We’ve adapted many of the recent upgrades and value-added improvements from our 7000 series models to the 5000 series models, and we’ve decoupled storage and accessories across the line to give our customers more options with regard to features and prices.”
The new line will offer three 50X and three 70X models, and customers will be able to differentiate the models by how they’re equipped with accessories and add-ons for better customization. The new line also adds several price points that will allow customers to pay only for the features and capabilities their shops need in a tire changer.
“Customers can expect the same durability and value they’ve always had with COATS tire changers, but now they will be able to pick and choose the features that they feel are important for their shops,” said Keefe.

logi AeroSpace Proposes 'IED Proof' Vehicle to DoD
BELLEVUE, Neb., July 1, 2010 -- logi AeroSpace, working with several other innovative companies, is leading the way in advanced transportation with a proposal to the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) for the Tyrannos, a new concept vehicle based on proven technologies.
Designed for protection of military troops, the Tyrannos can travel both on and above roads to speed transportation between locations. The Tyrannos was inspired by the hundreds of U.S. military troops who have lost their lives to IEDs while driving on roads in Iraq and Afghanistan. Using a flight-proven shrouded propeller design from Trek Aerospace, it's designed to drive in the air above roads to avoid IED explosions. This vehicle also drives on the ground in all terrains from mountainous to city streets and can take off vertically without a runway. For non-military uses, the vehicle will transform modern lifestyles. Travel limited by terrain or time will no longer exist. Living in the country while working in the city becomes a viable option. Imagine the Poconos to New York City in 20 minutes or Santa Barbara to LA in 35 minutes.
To put this design into effect, logi AeroSpace is tapping the experience and expertise of electric vehicle pioneer ZAP (http://www.zapworld.com) for its advanced technology and knowledge in electric drive trains for road vehicles. Trek Aerospace (http://www.trekaero.com) will implement its shrouded propeller technology.
The Tyrannos is a bold, new and exciting vehicle that has been designed like no other car; it can drive along highways at 60 mph or climb vertically from a driveway and travel at 155 mph in the sky. This eco-friendly AT-TV (Airborne and Terrain Transport Vehicle) comfortably seats four, and can operate at zero emissions both on the ground and in the air. On the ground it can travel 46 miles in the all-electric mode and will get 43 miles per gallon on the road or obtain an astounding 19.4 air miles per gallon when flying.
The strategic advantage in Tyrannos is its super computer designed shrouded propellers and its advanced guidance system. Larry Ortega, the inventor of the guidance system and an Air Force Test Pilot School Flight Test Engineer Graduate, says: "The aerospace industry has been flying aircraft as airborne simulators of other aircraft to train pilots in the air for decades. This airborne simulator simulates a car. Any person who can drive on a street can drive it. We'll project a freeway in the sky on the windshield for the driver to see so they can get comfortable with the environment. It will be like crossing a high bridge."
