Cerritos College Becomes First West Coast School To Offer NAFA’s CAFM Courses

(PRINCETON, NJ – NOVEMBER 4, 2013) – Cerritos College, a two-year institution which boasts one of the finest automotive programs in the United States, is the latest school to include NAFA’s Certified Automotive Fleet Manager (CAFM) courses in its curriculum.  Located in the greater Los Angeles, California area, Cerritos becomes the first West Coast school (and fourth overall) to offer NAFA’s CAFM courses for college credit.

Cerritos has more than 600 students in its automotive program, which began in the 1970s.  The school offers training in Automotive Collision Repair, Automotive Mechanical Repair, and Advanced Transportation Technology and Energy.  It is the only automotive program on the West Coast with three OEM sponsorship programs.  In addition, the college has a partnership with Northwood University in Michigan that allows students to continue their education towards a full Bachelor’s Degree.

“Offering NAFA’s CAFM courses makes our program even stronger,” said Jannet Malig, Director, Advanced Transportation Technology & Energy at Cerritos College.  “The curriculum itself incorporates directly into a 4-credit program.  It’s a natural fit.”

For the past year, Cerritos and NAFA have been working well together.  The college has hosted several of the Association’s Pacific Southwest Chapter meetings at their facility.  In return, NAFA’s local chapter recently issued their first two scholarships to students in the automotive technology program at Cerritos.  The chapter plans on providing two additional scholarships for automotive technology students as well as two for the CAFM/CAFS program in the spring.

“Cerritos has a great partnership in the area with fleets and auto dealers,” explained Rick Sikes, CAFM, Fleet Management Superintendent for the City of Santa Monica and Chair of NAFA’s Fuels & Technology Advisory Council.  “They have state-of-the-art facilities and many programs related to automotive technology and auto dealer management.  The school is also centrally located to many areas in the region.”

NAFA’s CAFM program is also endorsed by the National Conference of State Fleet Administrators (NCSFA), Rocky Mountain Fleet Management Association (RMFMA), and Florida Association of Governmental Fleet Administrators (FLAGFA).  In addition, the CAFM program is offered for college credit at Ferris State University (Big Rapids, Michigan), Georgian College (Barrie, Ontario, Canada), and Ranken Technical College (St. Louis, Missouri).

ESCORT Invites SEMA Show Attendees to Experience the All-new PASSPORT® Max™ High Definition Radar Detector

LAS VEGAS, Nov. 4, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- ESCORT Inc. (ESCORTinc.com), designer and manufacturer of the world's only High Definition PASSPORT® Max™ radar & laser detector, formally invites the public to experience their all-new record setting design. Using advanced military technology, PASSPORT Max™ delivers high definition performance with ultra-fast signal processing and unprecedented noise filtering.

"In 30 years of impartial testing, we haven't seen this level of reporting range or immediacy of alerts by any other radar detector."  ---    Speed Measurement Labs

Already a 'take it to the max' year for radar detector innovator ESCORT Inc., the category leader comes to 2013 SEMA ready to heighten its record breaking year with multiple product announcements.

A few months ago, ESCORT blasted the radar detector performance benchmark (again) with the release of the all-new High Definition PASSPORT Max™ radar & laser detector.  'Taking ticket protection to the max', the new PASSPORT detector established unprecedented performance records for radar detection metrics.  And in a very upbeat note for the firm, PASSPORT Max™ also achieved new 'bests' for product launch production numbers, booked pre-orders and direct-to-customer shipments processed (ESCORT show booth #11739, North Hall).

By basing PASSPORT Max™ on advanced Digital Signal Processing technology, ESCORT engineers created an entirely new detection science.  The new design enables PASSPORT Max™ to scan for radar threats fifty times faster than any other detector.  PASSPORT Max™ scans radar bands faster than 'the blink of an eye' (a human eye blink takes several hundred milliseconds while Max scans signals more than twice as fast!).

This dramatic increase in speed delivers a corresponding leap in detection capability and range.  PASSPORT Max™ delivers quicker response times; greater sensitivity for superior range; and extremely accurate signal recognition to identify and reject false alerts.

In an independent product test conducted by Speed Measurement Labs (SML), PASSPORT Max™ established three new benchmarks for the detector category.  With detection range to fifteen miles, fastest timed response and greatest sensitivity ever witnessed, PASSPORT Max™ set all new performance standards for the future of radar detection protection.

And PASSPORT Max™ connects with ESCORT's previous SEMA show 'best new product' winner, the ESCORT Live™ ticket protection app and network.  ESCORT Live™ helps customers drive smarter by dramatically increasing overall knowledge of their driving environment.  With ESCORT Live™, drivers know sooner, prepare faster and share important information in real time.  When linked with the PASSPORT Max™, the leading edge technologies provide unprecedented ticket protection for drivers.

"As the patent innovator, we continue to lead the radar detector category to new performance levels as shown by the PASSPORT Max™ and its completely new level of driving awareness and protection," said John Larson, ESCORT President and CEO.  "Our new PASSPORT Max™, new media sharing products and shifting technologies all point to advanced best-in-class products and services for our partners and customers."

New for SEMA, ESCORT's Laser ShifterPro™ is a completely redesigned laser defense technology.  The all-new Laser ShifterPro™ is ESCORT's most advanced laser defense system ever.  Developed for laser threats and protection from targeting laser guns, the Laser ShifterPro™'s superior performance is based on its use of true laser diodes to maximize effectiveness against difficult-to-beat targeting laser guns.  And to keep customers up-to-date against new laser guns and future enforcement technologies as they are developed, the new ShifterPro™'s software is upgradable using ESCORT's exclusive online Shifter Tools™ download interface.

The new PASSPORT Max™ and new product announcements will be the key topics at the exclusive ESCORT SEMA Show press conference (Thursday, Nov 7, 11:30 AM, SEMA Media Center, Room N110).

Also being highlighted at SEMA is ESCORT's new MediaFlair media sharing hub.  Already a player in the smartphone category (SEMA Show winning ESCORT Live™ app), it has been a very natural progression for ESCORT to design and release the new MediaFlair™ portable, wireless data sharing hub.  MediaFlair™ is an exciting new way to listen, watch and share media.  Using the power and simplicity of WiFi, MediaFlair™ streams personal content to smartphones, tablets and more by using a companion interface app.  Load music, movies, photos and documents onto the included SD card and take it on the go.  Perfect for road trips with the kids, business travel, tailgating with friends and family, MediaFlair™ is personal media on the go (ESCORT's Show booth #11739, North Hall).

What to Look for When Outsourcing Fleet Breakdown Service

CHERRY HILL, NJ, October 31, 2013 – Dealing with fleet breakdown can be not only a customer service disaster but also a big drain on the company's bottom line. According to an executive with AmeriQuest Transportation Services, fleets currently handling breakdown service calls internally would be surprised to learn that outsourcing the service to a third-party provider will usually save them money and get trucks back on the road more quickly than their current methods.

In addition, even companies which are satisfied with their internal response to emergencies should have a backup plan in place in cases where the power fails, the computer system goes down, or the on-call technician is unexpectedly unavailable. “You can hire multiple people to always be available 24/7 but that usually isn’t cost-effective. Having employees sitting around, waiting for an event to happen can negatively impact your bottom line,” said Byron Lay in a blog posted on the AmeriQuest Transportation Services Website.

Fleet managers looking into the possibility of outsourcing fleet breakdown service for any reason should look for a number of things before making their decision:
  • Make sure the provider has access to repair and towing facilities that cover your complete transportation map.
  • Since breakdowns can occur anytime, look for a service that can quickly respond 24/7.
  • Compare the cost of handling roadside assistance and towing internally vs. outsourcing.
  • Find a service that keeps the driver, fleet owner, and ultimately the customers in constant contact.
  • Check references.
To read more about when it’s time to check your fleet breakdown backup plans, go the AmeriQuest Website and check out the blog: http://blog.ameriquestcorp.com/its-time-to-check-your-fleet-breakdown-backup-plans/.

CEI provides accident management services for the Red Bull fleet vehicles, which includes delivery and promotional vehicles, through one of CEI's leasing partners, GE Fleet Capital Leasing.

“We are delighted that Red Bull, one of the most dynamic consumer marketing companies in the world, would go to such efforts to help make our company celebration a success, ” said Vincent Brigidi, CEI’s president and chief operating officer.
