State of Michigan Boosts Major Cost-Cutting Initiative By Expanding Use of FleetCommander Motor Pool Management Technology

CHANTILLY, VA, March 23, 2011 -- The state of Michigan expanded its use of FleetCommander automated motor pool technology to the cities of Traverse City and Escanaba, bringing the total to 14 locations across the state as part of its comprehensive cost-cutting initiative. The announcement was made today by Agile Access Control, Inc. (Agile), creator of FleetCommander, a web browser-based fleet and motor pool management application.

Despite having motor pools located throughout Michigan, the Fleetcommander technology enables the state's fleet managers to oversee operations from one centralized location in Lansing while achieving 100% accountability of all access to vehicles.  Each of the 14 locations uses a self-service motor pool kiosk; five of those pair the kiosk with Fleetcommander's secure key control hardware that provides secure, automated, round-the-clock access to vehicles.

Agile's President Edwin Smith said the company shared Michigan's vision for more efficient and flexible motor pools.  "We're thrilled about the State of Michigan's success with FleetCommander and its recent expansion. Ten years ago, who could have imagined that a fleet manager sitting in Lansing, Michigan could see the status of each fleet located throughout the state in real-time, and even hand out and collect keys with no staff on-site?  That's cool stuff!"

The roll-out of motor pool technology is part of Michigan's comprehensive effort to slash costs and change driver behavior across the state.  The state now uses FleetCommander to manage car sharing for 347 vehicles among 3,051 end-users.  More than 200 motor pool requests are made each work day statewide.  Expansion to at least five more Michigan cities is planned in the next calendar year.

"The new technology is accomplishing exactly what we set out to do," says Dave Ancell of Michigan's Department of Technology, Management and Budget's Vehicle and Travel Services.  "We are able to analyze real-time vehicle utilization rates to make more efficient use of our fleet, which includes better use of our motor pool system and greater efficiency in the reservation process for those pooled vehicles."

FleetCommander more efficiently manages the state of Michigan's motor pools by:
•    Eliminating paper-driven, manual processes for reserving vehicles
•    Collecting accurate and validated account data during the reservation process
•    Allowing secure access to vehicle keys for pick-up and return
•    Facilitating centralized (Lansing) management of motor pools located statewide
•    Interfacing with the state's accounting system to transmit reservation charge-back data
•    Providing information that enables the state to eliminate unneeded vehicles, saving approximately $4-5,000 in maintenance and depreciation costs per cut

In addition to the motor pool capabilities, Michigan is using FleetCommander for asset and driver management, policy enforcement, reporting, fleet driver communications, and more.
