October 4, 2012 – Autumn means shorter days,
less daylight and peak season for collisions with wildlife. According to the
U.S. Department of Transportation, there are at least 1 million motor vehicle
accidents involving large wildlife each year, killing about 200 people,
injuring 29,000 and causing more than $1 billion in property damage.
Quixx, maker of the #1 rated scratch remover,
advises drivers to do five important things to ensure safer driving in the
fall.
1. Keep headlights clean & clear: Over
time, headlights become yellow, foggy and scratched due to environmental
elements like UV rays and road debris. A
key safety feature of the vehicle, headlights are often overlooked in the
regular maintenance routine when in fact they should be considered as important
as oil changes, replacing windshield wipers and washing and waxing the
vehicle. Quixx recommends using their
Headlight Lens Restorer Kit & Sealer, which can restore headlights back to
95% of their original clarity.
2. Watch out for wet leaves: Once
leaves fall to the ground, they become wet and create slippery roadways,
similar to icy conditions. They can also
get stuck to windshields and wipers and prevent drivers from seeing
properly. Quixx advises to slow down on
roads with leaves (especially on turns); be sure to remove all leaves from the
windshield before driving and avoid parking under trees if possible.
3. Be mindful of the light: We lose one minute of daylight every day
until Daylight Savings ends in October.
The fading light of dusk often makes it difficult to see pedestrians,
children or wildlife. Be sure to turn on
your headlights earlier and reduce your speed.
4. Watch out for Frost: Autumn tends to be damp, rainy and/or foggy
in many parts of the country and this moisture can quickly turn into frost
overnight. Be sure to drive slowly in
the mornings, particularly when crossing bridges or overpasses, as these tend
to frost quicker than other areas.
5. Drive with low beams in Fog: A common mistake drivers make is to turn on
their high beams in foggy conditions.
This aims the light high and into the fog, when your light should be low
and hitting the road. Resist the urge to
turn on your high beams, but rather make sure your headlights are clean and
clear and leave them on low.
“Driving with deteriorated
headlights not only detracts from the car’s appearance, but also limits the
driver’s visibility by 50% or more, putting them at higher risk of accidents,
particularly in dark, dim or foggy conditions,” says Mark Shore, Vice
President, Sales & Marketing, Quixx USA.
“By using Quixx’s Headlight Lens Restorer & Sealer, drivers can
restore their headlights to the original clean and clear condition and drive
safely again.”
How to
tell if your headlights need restoration:
Not sure if your headlights are in need of
repair? A simple look at the car in
daylight and examining the headlights for one or more of these will help you
determine if they need restoration:
·
The lenses look milky, foggy or yellow
·
You can’t see the bulb through the lens
·
The lenses are scratched or scarred

About QUIXX Headlight Restoration Kit
The all-inclusive QUIXX Headlight Restoration
Kit (MSRP $19.99), comes with lens polish, lens sealer, ultra fine sand paper
and sanding/polishing block for extremely yellowed or
severely scratched headlights, and polishing cloths. Compared to
other headlight kits on the market which always require sanding of the lens to
remove the yellowing, the included special QUIXX polishing compound is so
effective that sanding the lens is usually not required, except for removing
light scratches. Most noteworthy is the uniquely formulated Headlight Lens
Sealer, the finishing touch needed to prevent degradation of
the headlights from reoccurring over time.
Its unique formula generates a hard and long-lasting, weather and
detergent-proof protection layer against environmental influences. The smooth
dirt-repelling surface keeps the lenses cleaner. The integrated UV-Protection
significantly reduces fogging and yellowing.
It also helps prevent scratches and will add a protective layer to the
lens.
