OTS’ Data Versatility, Fuel Tax Expertise Seals the Deal for Alaska’s Carlile

STOW, OHIO, August 3, 2010 – With its ability to work with paper data, electronic data or a combination of both; Operating Tax Systems, LLC (OTS) today announced it has been selected to handle fuel tax compliance services for Carlile Transportation Systems.

Depending on the location across North America, Carlile’s different fleets use various forms of technology. OTS will prepare multiple IFTA and state mileage tax returns using data captured on paper as well as data captured electronically. Within 48 hours, OTS will process and post the data to its software system, RoadTax.net® giving Carlile Web-based access to its fuel tax reports in real time and on demand.

“We considered outsourcing fuel tax in the past, but only OTS could handle our level of complexity,” said Debbie Shannon, Carlile’s chief information officer. “With Carlile headquartered in Alaska -- the northwest extremity of North America -- it can be difficult to communicate with the GPS satellites over the equator. OTS’s approach to fuel tax preparation is second to none. It is multi-faceted that uses all data available and even applies human intelligence to fill-in gaps in GPS data feeds.”

“Only OTS can use a client’s highest form of technology or multiple technologies,” said Al Uritis, chief executive officer of OTS. “We can work with companies that have invested in the latest dispatch and GPS systems in one location and use only paper trip sheets in another location. Being versatile in this way enables us to help our clients stay compliant by preparing quality tax returns.”

Carlile is one of Alaska's largest trucking companies with more than 350 company-owned trucks and 1,500 pieces of specialized trailing equipment to handle even the most unusual load. Today, Carlile's wholly-owned terminals serve Alaska from Anchorage, Fairbanks, Kenai, Kodiak, Prudhoe Bay, Seward, as well as Tacoma, WA; Houston, TX, Blaine, MN and Edmonton, AB.

In its 2009 and 2010 seasons, Ice Road Truckers, the History Channel’s popular television show, has featured the Alaska drivers of Carlile Transportation Systems, highlighting the challenges faced on the Dalton Highway “Haul Road” and the ice roads of the North Slope of Alaska.
