AMSTERDAM, Nov 11, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- TomTom today launches the TomTom PRO 7100 TRUCK, providing truck drivers with improved route guidance as well as a significant expansion of its coverage of access restrictions affecting large vehicles around Europe.
With the addition of Denmark, Hungary, and Sweden, TomTom has increased the number of countries to 15* for which it is able to display weight- and dimension-related access restrictions for major and interconnecting roads.
These additional countries are available for the new PRO 7100 TRUCK navigation device from TomTom Business Solutions, the business unit of TomTom dedicated to commercial vehicle fleets.
"Unnecessary mileage and detours can have a real impact on transport companies, costing them money and delaying deliveries," says Thomas Schmidt, Managing Director of TomTom Business Solutions. "Our new device will help drivers of larger vehicles to take the most efficient route and enable them to meet those all-important service level agreements."
The PRO 7100 TRUCK offers route guidance for large vehicles in 45** countries. The route guidance favours major roads, minimises sharp turns and makes allowances for the lower speeds at which trucks typically travel. In the 15 countries where the additional access restriction information is available, the PRO 7100 TRUCK alerts the driver to access restrictions based on height, width, length, weight and weight per axle of the vehicle.
The TomTom PRO 7100 TRUCK has an improved user interface and includes safety features such as restriction warnings, text-to-speech and advanced lane guidance.
The PRO 7100 TRUCK can be part of TomTom WORKsmart(TM), for effortless fleet management. WORKsmart gives transport companies the ability to dispatch jobs while taking real-time data on driving and working hours from the digital tachograph into account and help drive down fuel costs and environmental impact when used in combination with TomTom ecoPLUS(TM).
