- Chevin Fleet Solutions has donated its enterprise
fleet management software to the international not-for-profit organization
North Star Alliance, to help it improve the delivery of vital healthcare to
long distance truck drivers across Africa.
Chevin’s RoadBASE will allow
North Star Alliance to more effectively manage a new fleet of Mobile Wellness
Centres (MWCs). These MWCs will bolster the organization’s existing network of
roadside health clinics which are situated at transport hotspots throughout Africa, to provide long distance truck drivers with
sustainable access to basic health care.
Africa’s
long distance truck drivers, sex workers, and surrounding communities located
along main transport corridors are at high risk from communicable diseases,
including sexually transmitted infections such as HIV. As the majority of
freight in Africa is transported by road, it
is essential that long distance truck drivers are healthy in order to keep this
fundamental industry alive.
Commenting on the donation from
Chevin, North Star Alliance’s Executive Director, Luke Disney, remarked:
“Chevin’s generous donation to North Star Alliance will be an invaluable asset
when we launch the MWCs, enabling us to track and monitor these vehicles as
they travel around various African countries. Our roadside health clinics
provide vital healthcare to groups that usually find it difficult to access
conventional provision. The introduction of MWCs will give us more flexibility
to travel to hard to reach hot spots where clinics are not yet available
further increasing accessibility.”
RoadBASE will provide
up-to-date and accurate data primarily relating to vehicle maintenance and
driver management on its fleet of MWCs that will be will travelling across the
continent.
RoadBASE will allow North Star
Alliance to quickly access maintenance and performance reports and gain clear
visibility over MWC assignments and utilization. Ron Katz, Chevin Fleet
Solutions’ Senior Vice President for North America,
said:
“We feel privileged to help the
North Star Alliance carry out its important work. RoadBASE provides an ideal
solution for geographically dispersed fleets, like North Star Alliance’s, that
often work in rural or dangerous locations. RoadBASE also benefits aid
organizations with its multilingual capabilities and the flexibility to adapt
the software to the organization’s changing needs. Chevin’s long-term
commitment and significant client base in the humanitarian aid sector allows us
to generously support the important work of North Star Alliance.”
This donation follows a meeting
between the two parties at the annual international aid conference, the Fleet
Forum in Geneva.
