City of Fort Wayne, Indiana - Larry Campbell, Fleet Management Director Place 5th Out Of Top 100 Best Government Fleets

Fort Wayne, IN -- The 2013 Government Green Fleet™ Award recipients were announced and awards presented in a ceremony in Phoenix, Arizona on October 1-2, 2013.

Greater Indiana Clean Cities member and past President, Larry Campbell, Fleet Management Director for the City of Fort Wayne, Indiana was presented the 5th Place Award out of a total of over 100 submissions for the outstanding results that have been realized through the City of Fort Wayne's Alternative Fuels and Technologies initiatives and programs.

Larry Campbell, Fleet Management Director, City of Fort Wayne commented, "It is our hope that the measures we've taken in Fort Wayne will allow us to be leaders in the use of alternative fuels and technologies and an example for other cities throughout the state of Indiana".

The Government Green Fleet Award is open to all Federal, State, and Local Government Fleets in North America. This includes fleets that are operated by local government personnel or contracted services. The Government Green Fleet Award is a comprehensive set of criteria specifically tailored around the challenges and requirements of the government fleet manager. All entries are rated on the content of their application. The criteria was carefully selected and compiled over a period of several months, using hundreds of sources in green fleet planning and methodology.

With Mr. Campbell's leadership and vision, the City of Fort Wayne has been able to realize substantial fuel cost savings across the cities entire fleet of vehicles.  Additionally, measures taken by Mr. Campbell and the City of Fort Wayne to move to cost saving alternative fuel options dramatically reduces the cities dependence on foreign oil while utilizing cleaner burning fuels which are clearly beneficial to air quality and the environment.

In addition to the alternative fuel and technology initiatives undertaken by the City of Fort Wayne, recipients of the Government Green Fleet™ Award are also judged on areas such as Facility Improvements, Recycling Programs, Employee & Driver Education, and Fleet Right Sizing, just to name a few.

Installing energy saving LED lighting throughout the fleet facilities, the installation of thermo pane windows & programmable thermostats and facilities heaters that automatically shut off when exterior doors remain open for longer than two minutes are just a few of the measures put in place under Mr. Campbell's tenure.
The conversion to LED lighting throughout the facilities has already garnered an annual savings to tax payers of $5,765.  These savings will reimburse the cost of installation in just two years.

Kellie Walsh, Executive Director, Greater Indiana Clean Cities Coalition remarked, "Larry Campbell is a real asset to the citizens of Fort Wayne.  His forward thinking and complete understanding of the benefits that alternative fuels and technologies offer has produced substantial savings for the tax payers of the City of Fort Wayne".
