Southeastern Freight Lines Selects Innovative Software Engineering’s Electronic Driver Vehicle Inspection Reporting (DVIR) Software Application for Fleet-wide Deployment

LEXINGTON, S.C. (Dec. 6, 2010) – Southeastern Freight Lines, a leading provider of regional less-than-truckload (LTL) transportation services, has selected Innovative Software Engineering (ISE) as its provider of electronic driver vehicle inspection reports (DVIR). ISE DVIR is a full-featured FMCSA compliant application that automates DOT required vehicle inspection reporting and record keeping. The DVIR application works as a convenient extension to ISE’s Electronic Driver Log application, which Southeastern deployed fleet-wide earlier this year. Southeastern has already realized improved efficiency of its fleet operations by using ISE software to process more than 26,000 paperless driver logs each month.

“Just as with their Electronic Driver Logs application, ISE has delivered a critical advantage to our safety and compliance with its new DVIR application. ISE’s application empowers us to transition to an electronic DVIR process, eliminating countless paper forms for our tractors and trailers,” said Braxton Vick, Senior Vice President of corporate planning and development at Southeastern Freight Lines. “The DVIR application is easy to use for our drivers and maintenance technicians. It improves productivity by providing real-time visibility into defects requiring repair. We could not be more pleased with ISE as a technology partner.”

ISE DVIR integrates seamlessly with the ISE Electronic Driver Logs application to optimize efficient workflow. A flexible communications channel supports wireless exchange of information between the vehicle and back office over cellular, Wi-Fi or satellite networks. The mobile interface automatically prompts the driver to inspect each vehicle before and after operation. Drivers select from customizable lists of parts and accessories and common defect descriptions, simplifying consistent yet detailed defect documentation. Maintenance personnel use the web interface to review defects and deficiencies, enter notes, and certify that repairs have been made or are not needed for safe operation. When the next driver takes the wheel, the mobile application retrieves the latest defect and repair information for the power unit and current trailers, creating a reviewable DVIR for the entire vehicle combination. After reviewing the report, the driver checks one or more boxes to indicate satisfaction that the vehicle is in safe operating condition.

Adopting ISE DVIR reduces costs by eliminating the manual processing of countless three-part paper driver inspection reports. Because so much paper is routed through a carrier’s systems, maintenance activities can be challenging to schedule and complete in a timely manner. Documentation of critical repairs can suffer and thus lead to violations on the CSA 2010 Vehicle Maintenance BASIC. Real-time electronic communication of inspection reports improves safety and compliance by enabling earlier defect resolution. ISE’s eFleetSuite Web application can be integrated with existing fleet vehicle maintenance software applications via web services, and can be hosted by ISE or installed and run on the carrier’s own computer system – as it is at Southeastern Freight Lines today.

“ISE is both pleased and honored to be chosen by Southeastern for their electronic DVIR implementation,” noted ISE President Hass Machlab. “We expect them to achieve great productivity gains and cost savings with our solution, just as they did with our Electronic Driver Logs application. With the onset of CSA 2010 and the criticality of roadside inspections, we strongly believe that DVIR and Electronic Driver Logs will enhance any fleet’s efforts to improve safety and lower its CSA 2010 scores.”
