DFW Charities in 'Cadillac Cares' Facebook Challenge Share Same Goal of Helping Children

Dallas, TX -- Apr 11, 2011 / (http://www.myprgenie.com) -- Their names and backgrounds are different, but four Dallas/Fort Worth charities competing in the "Cadillac Cares" Facebook Challenge sponsored by Metroplex Cadillac Dealers are working toward the same goal: helping children.

The charities -- Big Thought, Heroes for Children, The Family Place and Make-A-Wish Foundation of North Texas -- are competing for an award of $50,000 in advertising in the "Cadillac Cares" Challenge.

Each charity has its biography and a voting button on the Cadillac Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/MetroplexCadillacDealers. Each fan can cast a ballot for only one charity per day. The promotion began today, April 11. The charity with the most votes on May 9 will receive $50,000 in advertising.

Through the efforts of these participating charities, children and their families have access to quality learning opportunities, financial assistance while dealing with childhood cancer, a safe haven for victims of family violence, and the granting of wishes in the face of life-threatening medical conditions.
•    Big Thought, founded in 1987, is one of the nation's leading nonprofits focused on giving children access to quality learning opportunities. The charity makes imagination part of everyday learning, so that children can grow into imaginative, adaptable and productive adults.
Big Thought manages Thriving Minds, a program that keeps families connected to free, fun programming -- monthly performances at libraries, family excursions, summer camps and parent nights, plus activities in school and after school.

In the community, Big Thought partners with artists, cultural organizations, community volunteers, librarians, and service providers. Thriving Minds is changing the way Dallas thinks about educating youth for the 21st century.

Thriving Minds serves more than 300,000 children, parents, educators, artists and other creative professionals each year. Because of Big Thought, Dallas is the only city in the U.S. offering year-round comprehensive creative learning opportunities citywide.
•    Heroes for Children provides financial and social assistance to families, within the state of Texas, with children (0-22 years of age) battling cancer
Heroes for Children was founded in memory of Taylor Anne Brewton and Allison "Allie" Leigh Scott, who died from acute myeloid leukemia.

Co-Founders Larissa Linton, Taylor's mother, and Jenny Scott, Allie's mom, founded Heroes for Children in 2004 after they saw other families with children who had cancer losing their homes, having their electricity shut off and struggling to pay medical and other bills.

Today, Heroes for Children provides assistance within seven days. Social workers at Texas hospitals research families' finances and need, then apply online for Heroes for Children's help.

In the D/FW area, Heroes for Children currently serves children and families being treated at Medical City Children's of Dallas, Children's Medical Center of Dallas, and Cook Children's of Ft.Worth
•    The Family Place reaches out to thousands of victims of family violence each year with award-winning programs that keep women and children safe and has done so for 33 years. More than 50 children are fed meals and after-school snacks every day.
The Family Place is the largest family violence service provider in the Dallas area. They believe that intervention, emergency shelter and crisis counseling for all victims -- women, children and men -- will allow The Family Place to achieve its mission to end the epidemic of family violence.

Programs include emergency shelter services, transitional housing, outreach services, children's services, incest recovery services, battering intervention and intervention program, client legal services, Faith and Liberty's Place Family Center, Be Project, public education and resale shop.

Taking one day at a time, The Family Place is transforming lives for the better.
•    The Make-A-Wish Foundation of North Texas grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.
One of 65 chapters in the U.S., the North Texas chapter began in 1982 and serves 106 counties. It grants more than 450 wishes a year and also hosts other wishes for children from other states.

The Wishing Place in Las Colinas is centrally located between Dallas and Fort Worth. Most North Texas Wish Children are treated in hospitals in the D/FW metroplex. The Wishing Place heightens the power and delight of a child's wish experience and deepens the joy and comfort of a child's family when in the area for medical treatment.

Make-A-Wish provides children with the hope for better times, the strength for the tough times and the joy to experience the present. Their goal is to be a unique part of the treatment process; doctors providing the medicine, and the Make-A-Wish Foundation(R) supplying the magic.

The $50,000 media award in the "Cadillac Care" Facebook Challenge includes television, radio and print advertising and the Cadillac DFW database.

The other three charities will receive a $1000 cash donation as well as public relations exposure during the challenge.

"These charities have helped thousands of children in the D/FW area, and deserve to be recognized for their wonderful work," said Tom D'Angelo, Regional Marketing Manager for Cadillac in the South Central Region. "The award of $50,000 in advertising will be a tremendous tool to further the efforts of the winning charity."

Each charity will make the Cadillac Facebook page www.facebook.com/MetroplexCadillacDealers a "favorite" of its Facebook page, and email its supporters, asking for votes on the Cadillac page.
