LeMay – America's Car Museum Launches Local Dealership

TACOMA, Wash. (April 11, 2011) – Keeping with its "community first" focus, LeMay – America's Car Museum (ACM) has launched a local dealership Adopt-an-Auto program. Designed to allow auto dealers in the Pacific Northwest to become part of the ACM "family," funds raised from the program will help support the new museum, which will open in 2012.

"The Adopt-an-Auto program reaches out to dealers in the community and gives them a chance to have an active role in the growth of America's Car Museum," said Dominic Dobson, chief development officer at ACM. "We're looking to tap into the synergy we have with our shared background in cars and let dealers be a part of this museum and the history it represents."
The first dealership to join the program is Larson Automotive Group in Tacoma, Fife & Puyallup, with locations nearby America's Car Museum.

"I joined the program because it involves getting the vehicles ready for show," said Robert Larson, owner of Larson Automotive Group. "We adopted the museum's 1969 AMC AMX, my favorite line of vehicles. I grew up with AMC's… they started my career."

Larson said the relationship America's Car Museum is creating with local dealers "makes me feel a part of the museum family. Once the museum is complete, it's going to be a special place to go and remember the days gone by. Everybody has a special car or a first car they wish they still had. The museum is going to impact people and families in a special way and I'm glad I could contribute my little part."

The cost to participate in the Adopt-an-Auto program is $5,000, which is based on the estimated average cost it will take to prepare and maintain a single vehicle for display in the museum. Participating dealers can select a car from a list of ‘needy cars,' and make a tax-deductible donation or an in-kind donation in the form of parts and labor.

As part of the relationship, dealerships will have the right to display the adopted car for a period of time in one of their own showrooms. Additionally, the adopted car will have a cloisonné badge permanently attached to it with the name of its adopter, along with other sponsorship benefits from the Museum.
