Blue Star Gas Reveals Environmental, Cost Benefits of Autogas to Western Riverside Clean Cities Coalition

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – August 18, 2011 – A representative from Alliance AutoGas partner Blue Star Gas introduced California’s Western Riverside County Clean Cities Coalition to the emissions-reducing, cost-saving benefits of propane autogas during the bimonthly council meeting on Wednesday. Blue Star Director of Marketing Darren Engle gave a presentation on the advantages of running fleets on autogas and featured an autogas-powered 2006 Ford Crown Victoria for inspection.

“Autogas is an affordable, American-made alternative fuel more Californians should know about—especially with gasoline prices averaging over $3.70 per gallon in California,” said Engle. “Autogas historically costs about $1 per gallon less than gasoline, and the fueling infrastructure is much more affordable to implement than for other alternative vehicle fuels. Not only that, Alliance AutoGas will install an on-site fueling station at no up-front cost to fleets.”

The most widely used alternative fuel in the world, propane autogas is environmentally friendly, affordable and the U.S. supply is 90 percent made in America. Autogas produces 20 percent less carbon monoxide, 40 percent less nitrogen oxide and 12 percent less carbon dioxide than gasoline. Because autogas is cleaner-burning, vehicles require less frequent oil changes, have increased engine life and exhibit comparable performance and reliability to gasoline-powered vehicles.
