CINCINNATI, OHIO (October 15, 2013) – Swapalease.com, the nation’s largest car lease marketplace, reports average car lease prices declined -2.0% year-over-year based on listings entering the market during September. Prices on leases averaged $582.02 in September, down from $593.66 in September of 2012. These prices compare to an average of $578.06 recorded during August. Ford’s popular Escape, Focus and Fusion models all showed significant price jumps on monthly payments recorded in September compared with the previous year.
The Swapalease.com marketplace records actual monthly payments based on contracts from lessees who’ve listed their vehicles for transfer each month. The least expensive lease listed during September was a 2013 Smart Fortwo at $98.00 monthly. A Nissan Sentra was registered second with a monthly payment of $115.00.
Among today’s most popular leased vehicles, the average price of a Chevy Cruze saw the biggest year-over-year decline at -28.8%. The average monthly price of a Cruze was recorded at $233.55 in September, down from $328.00 a year ago. The Volkswagen Jetta dropped -27.4%, registering a monthly average of $243.36 in September compared with $335.29 a year ago.
For the second straight month, the Toyota Camry registered the largest YOY price increase at 29.3%, with September monthly averages recorded at $362.14 compared with $280.01 the previous year. The Ford Escape jumped 26.1% YOY, with an average monthly payment of $344.22 in September compared with $272.87 the previous year.
“It is a little surprising to see such noticeable price jumps on all three popular Ford models, the Fusion, Escape and Focus,” said Scot Hall, Executive Vice President of Swapalease.com. “Ford has made a strong effort to drive stronger leasing programs since the recession, and many of our customers have enjoyed the leasing experience through Ford.
