Chrysler Group Global Electric Motorcars LLC (GEM) Receives 2010 EV-angelism Award

Fargo, ND ¬– May 11, 2010 – Chrysler Group Global Electric Motorcars LLC (GEM) was presented with the 2010 “EV-angelism Award” from the Alternative Fuel Vehicle Institute (AFVi) at the group’s national conference and expo held in Las Vegas, Nev., May 9-12, 2010. AFVi honored GEM for its history and leadership in the low-speed, Neighborhood Electric Vehicle (NEV) market, noting the company’s commitment to manufacturing environmentally-friendly vehicles and its long service, which has helped build credibility for the NEV industry as a whole.

Over the past 12+ years, more than 40,000 GEM electric vehicles have been placed in service worldwide. These vehicles have been driven more than 500 million emission-free miles, have saved more than 19.5 million gallons of gas, and have reduced CO2 emissions by more than 93,000 metric tons.

GEM representatives were presented with the award on Tuesday, May 11, 2010, during the morning General Session. Throughout the event, GEM representatives will be showcasing the company’s new right hand drive GEM vehicle, designed for conducting security checks, delivering mail, or parking enforcement (booth #425).

GEM vehicles are 100 percent battery-electric and emit zero tailpipe emissions. They have a top speed of 25 mph and a range of up to 30 miles on a charge making them a cost-effective and energy-efficient way to run errands, haul equipment, or transport people around work facilities. GEM cars cost approximately two cents per mile to operate and can be plugged into a standard 110-volt outlet to recharge.

GEM has been an exhibitor of the annual AFV national conference and expo for the past six years. The conference and expo brings together public and private fleets and other government and industry stakeholders who share the mission of advancing the use of alternative fuels and advanced technologies in the marketplace. The conference has long supported non-petroleum fuels including national gas, ethanol, biodiesel, propane and electricity, as well as the alternative fuel vehicles that can use those fuels.
