Move comes after revenue growth from high-value shipments
SAN JOSE, California (June
10, 2011) – Old
Dominion Freight Line Inc., whose San Jose Service Center has been a
fixture in the community since 2006, today relocated the terminal to an
expanded and upgraded facility due to sustained growth in the region.
Within the last three-and-a-half-years, the San Jose Service Center has
experienced explosive growth thanks to a rising demand from the pharmaceutical
and electronics industries. Average daily revenue totals have increased nearly
four-fold since 2008.
According to the California Port
Authority, international trade accounts for nearly 25 percent of the
state’s economy, while many goods moving through California ports in the San
Francisco and Los Angeles areas, such as industrial and postconsumer secondary
materials, originated in other states. The
new location will help the company meet the shipping demands of customers
moving freight in and out of the six ports located with 100 miles of the new
facility in addition to shipments throughout North America.
“The enhanced facility, which is larger, more modern and more easily accessible
and centrally-located, will help us support the growth our customers are
experiencing,” said John Mootz, solutions specialist at the Old Dominion San Jose
Service Center. “These companies rely on Old Dominion to handle large volumes
of high-demand items quickly and safely. The new location, state of the art
security system and four extra docking doors will help us to achieve those
business critical objectives.”
The 48-door terminal situated at 2035 Ringwood Ave. in San Jose employs more
than 30 and operates under the leadership of manager, Christopher Babcock. It
will provide service to more than 15 cities in a 200-mile radius surrounding
San Jose and will enhance Old Dominion’s national network of 213 service
centers.
